As the evening wore on, Jamie's cravings for something sweet and salty became impossible to ignore. He knew he should've eaten something more substantial earlier, but he was drawn to the allure of the Krystals sign. Pulling into the drive-thru, he ordered a Chili Cheese Dog, a Bacon Cheddar Biscuit, and a large Mountain Dew Shake.
"That'll be $9.50," the voice on the intercom responded. Jamie handed over a crumpled ten-dollar bill, knowing he wouldn't be needing change any time soon.
The line moved slowly, but the anticipation was killing him. When he finally reached the pick-up window, he eagerly snatched up his bag of goodies and sped off, not even bothering to buckle his seatbelt.
Sinking his teeth into the warm, gooey Chili Cheese Dog, Jamie let out a groan of pleasure. The combination of flavors was heavenly, and he had already regretted not getting an extra serving. He washed it down with gulps of his cold, refreshing shake, relishing the burst of fizz in his mouth.
But as the greasy, gut-busting meal began to take its toll, Jamie couldn't help but realize he might've gone a bit overboard. The gas pains were starting to set in, and he knew he was in for a long, uncomfortable night.
He tried to sleep it off, but the gurgling noises in his stomach kept him up. And when he finally couldn't take it anymore, he had to release the pressure building up inside him. As each fart ripped through hisDigestive system, an accompanying splat echoed in the silence of his bedroom.
But the shame and embarrassment only spurred him on to eat more. He knew he needed the crunch of the Doritos and the savory goodness of the Nacho Cheese to soothe his aching belly. And as he took his third helping of the night, he couldn't help but wonder if this was what life was supposed to be like.
Lying in bed, staring up at the ceiling, he thought about the night's indulgences. The salty, greasy taste of the Chili Cheese Dog still lingering on his tongue. The warmth of the Bacon Cheddar Biscuit in his fingertips. And the cool creaminess of the shake, now nothing more than a distant memory.
As the sun began to rise and the world outside his window came alive with the sounds of morning, Jamie knew that this was the life he'd chosen. It was messy, it was uncomfortable, and it was absolutely worth every single calorie. And as he drifted off to sleep, content in his choices and his full stomach, he couldn't help but smile.
